Traditional Afternoon Tea

“Under certain circumstances, there are a few hours more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” – Henry James – The Portrait of a Lady”

The ritual of afternoon tea owes its origins to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. Living during a time when it was common to eat only two main meals a day; an early breakfast and a late dinner. Anna decided to schedule the time to drink tea and snack each afternoon.

This private ceremony was firstly done furtively in her bedroom, but over time other social hostesses quickly picked up on the idea and the practice became respectable enough to move it into the drawing room.

Before long all of fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon.

Luxurious, elegant and perfect for every day…

Our Traditional Afternoon Tea begins with delicate finger sandwiches served with the pièce de resistance three tiers stand with light, crusty scones and rich clotted cream accompanied by a variety of homemade cakes and pastries.

Served with as much tea and coffee as you need to fuel the gossip (and why not add a glass of Champagne; after all, it is a ladies prerogative to enjoy only the finer things in life…)

Standard Afternoon Tea £24.50

Champagne  Afternoon Tea £33.00

Children’s Afternoon Tea £12.50

(Please note Didsbury House is a residents only hotel, therefore Afternoon Tea is only available for event bookings of at least 8 people or guests of the hotel, with at least 24h notice period and subject to availability at time of booking)
